Me John-Nicolas Morello
acts in the following areas:
Employment law
Mr. Morello provides proactive advice, manages labor standards complaints and lawsuits, disciplinary measures, individual termination of employment and negotiates severance payments. Mr. Morello also acts as an investigative lawyer and mediator in cases involving constructive dismissal, termination without cause and psychological or sexual harassment in the workplace.
Furthermore, Mr. Morello develops and implements policies, strategies, action plans, training and workshops, including the development of tools aimed at promoting correct decision-making in employment law.
Human Rights Law
Mr. Morello acts in cases involving complaints of discrimination, harassment, intimidation and exploitation based on prohibited grounds of discrimination such as age, disability, language, religion, sex, race or color, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, etc. Mr. Morello also deals with legal applications for reasonable accommodation.
Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities
Mr. Morello represents people with disabilities confronted with barriers to mobility, the refusal to accommodate a person with a disability in addition to the negotiation of corrective measures, including the payment of compensation.
Mr. Morello offers consulting services and carries out compliance audits for transportation carriers, including the promotion of awareness, elimination and prevention of obstacles to mobility in buildings and public spaces (ex. terminals, stations), communications and information technology. He also develops and implements policies, strategies, action plans, training and workshops, including the development of tools to promote accessibility for people with disabilities. In 2021, during Mr. Morello’s final year of service with a national company, the firm’s Legal Services was shortlisted for the Canadian Law Awards, including for excellence in its accessibility work.
Mediation and Civil Litigation
Mr. Morello acts before Québec Courts in civil litigation. Mr. Morello has pleaded and actively directed civil litigation in Québec as well as before judges and arbitrators in employment and administrative law. Mr. Morello also acts regularly in mediation cases. He practices as a Dispute Resolution Advisor in civil, commercial, administrative, regulatory, employment law and human rights litigation.
Animal Law
Mr. Morello practices in a wide range of cases, including the protection of animal beings, adoption contracts, drafting of contracts (ex. dog walkers, boarding of animal beings, etc.), breeding, animal being diseases or disabilities, contaminated dog food and neighborhood disturbances, bodily injuries and death, off-leash dogs and fines, custody of animal beings in couple disputes, condo property disputes, rental issues, orders concerning a potentially dangerous dog where custody is conferred upon a municipality, euthanasia, etc. Mr. Morello also acts in litigation involving matters of public interest, the applicability, validity and operability of laws and provides legal advice for small claims court.
As a standing Member of the Québec Government's Advisory Committee on the Legality of Rodeos in Québec and co-author of the first Legal Guide for Cats and Dogs in Québec, Mr. Morello has given several conferences on animal law in Québec. Mr. Morello is regularly invited as a lecturer and collaborator with law professors in universities and supervises several university law students.
